IMPORTANT: Applications received after the December 15th deadline will be put into a second pool. If we have exhausted the initial applicant pool and still have available spots, second pool applicants will be contacted to begin the admissions process.
The Downing Street Playgroup is a preschool that provides programs for 2 to 4-year olds. A child must be 2 by September 1st in order to qualify for admission to school. Children who are old enough to attend New York City public school kindergarten are not eligible.
To begin the admissions process we ask parents to submit a completed application form with a non-refundable $50.00 fee. We officially begin accepting applications for the following academic year after the first day of school.
We will accept applications until Sunday, December 15th, 2019. Applicant families will be contacted in early January to arrange a visit to the school. Please note that we will try to give each family a class visit, but it is not guaranteed. During class visits, children will have an opportunity to explore the space and interact with our teachers, while parents meet with the co-op board to discuss the philosophy of the school and how it runs as a cooperative.
Acceptance to Downing Street Playgroup is based on gender balance; age and readiness; and willingness and ability of families to meet all requirements of a cooperative school. Readiness is judged by our two teachers, Nancy and Hally. Acceptance to the program will be determined by a committee consisting of the registrars, the co-chairs, and the teachers. When classes are created, priority is given to returning students, siblings of students or former students, and the children of our very own alumni.

Acceptance letters are emailed to applicant families in mid-March. We ask that families accept or decline admissions offers within five business days via email. A non-refundable deposit of two months of tuition must be sent to the school within ten days to secure a spot in the program.
